"A mad whim" may not, at first, appear to be the best reason to open a shop, but for Anne Barber, that whim paid off with our favourite gift shop, Butterslip in Kilkenny. “I was strolling down the Butterslip lane one evening and saw a For Rent sign on the building and I took it straight away,” Barber laughs. “It was mad; I had no stock and couldn’t open for four months, but opening my own place had been in the back of my head and it was time to take the jump.”   ..

Sophie the Giraffe (or la Girafe if you prefer!) is coming to Butterslip and we are very excited!  A worldwide classic and favourite of parents, Sophie has been keeping babies and parents happy in their nappies since 1961.  Sophie is made from natural rubber and is designed to both stimulate babies senses and sooth their sore gums.  The original Sophie la Girafe remains unchanged since her debut over 50 years ago, and thats a lot of happy campers! ..

Delightful delivery yesterday – was kept quite busy oohing and aahing at everything for some time!  I had a bit of a flashback to primary school when a craze for collecting ‘fancy stationary’ swept through the classroom.  Care Bears were big.  Pencils, erasers and toppers were terribly coveted, fervently traded and hugely prized, if far too precious to ever use.  The quite beautiful stationary range from Cavalini is a far cry from Care Bears, but the covetous feeling..
